Types of Braces

Thanks to advances in orthodontic technology, Hudson Orthodontics can provide our patients with more options when it comes to wearing braces than ever before. While traditional metal braces are still widely used, clear braces are very popular with teens and adults who are self-conscious about wearing braces, along with Invisalign removable aligners, an easily removable alternative to straighten teeth. Dr. Hillarie Ryann Hudson and Dr. J. Michael Hudson will help you determine which treatment option is right for you.

Ceramic “Clear” Braces

Ceramic braces move teeth just as efficiently as metal braces, except the brackets are clear, so they are less noticeable. They are most popular with adult patients due to their cosmetic appeal. The only drawbacks to ceramic brackets are that some of the ties used can discolor between orthodontic visits. We try not to use those ties at every appointment. We like to use a white coated tie that does not discolor or stain.

“Gold-Tone” Braces

The Gold-tone braces are a nice soft metal color that compliments the natural tones of teeth. Gold-tone or color ties can be used. They are just as small as the “regular” stainless steel/metal braces.

Stainless Steel Metal Braces

Metal braces are made of high-quality, durable stainless steel. They are the most common type of braces. The brackets, which are bonded to the front of each tooth, are connected by the archwire, which helps guide the teeth into the correct positions. Today’s metal braces are smaller, more comfortable and more attractive.

Invisalign Clear Aligners

Clear appliances, such as Invisalign, use a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners to straighten your teeth. Invisalign aligners are removable so you are not limited in what you can eat and drink during treatment. Plus… brushing and flossing are less of a hassle. The aligners are comfortable and have no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment.
